Paddy

HYdangle Paddy Image smalli my name is Paddy Milner and I am delighted to be one of  your coach’s here at ydangle. I have had over 30 years Corporate experience in a major International Oil company.  Having joined in the late ‘70’s as a Despatch Supervisor in depot operations, I was able to work in a variety of roles culminating in the role of Vice President for Supply & Distribution for Africa. Though much of my activity was within the Supply Chain  arena, I held positions in Oil Trading (in London office), and served as Interim Country Chair for Southern Africa in 2006. Being on the Executive management team for Africa, the Board of a number of companies incl South Africa and a refinery has given me wide exposure to Governance, Board, Strategy, Human Resource and Finance challenges in major organizations.

I took a strong interest in work-life balance issues, and was a key supporter of Sports and Social initiatives, Consultative Committees, Mentor circles and staff development initiatives. I believe I have a wide palette of hands on experience from both a management and staff perspective that I can draw on as a guide to others.

My academic focus was in the fields of accounting and industrial psychology and I also hold a Masters Degree in Business Leadership from the University of South Africa.

A family man with 4 grown up kids, I have a passion for the outdoors with a love for Mountains and nature. For relaxation I cycle, and run, and enjoy relaxed music, watching sport and visiting places off the beaten track.

I have a particular interest in helping people to develop their own efficiency and self belief. Throughout my career I have focused on ensuring my staff felt empowered to make decisions.

On the community side I have inter alia also been actively involved in Adult Leader training in the Scout Association in South Africa with a strong focus on Personal Growth and Development for these leaders, and served on school and club committees, gaining valuable experience in working with and leading volunteers as opposed to employees.

I look forward to sharing the wisdom gained over the years by myself and the other ydangle coaches with you via our site, blogs, comments and  other offerings.

F1000006 - Version 2I hope you will enjoy some of my comments and the sharing of some of the lessons I have learn't over the past 20+ years on our ydangle site.

Most of those years were spent as an employee of a major multi national group in a number or roles although I had a brief stint as an economics lecturer and some part time positions prior to my university days.  I ended my career with the company as the Vice President: Business to Business, Africa. During my time with the organisation I had a number of roles covering a broad range of areas in the business such as finance, business reengineering, marketing, sales, distribution, oversight of call centers, e-commerce and general management. I successfully led the startup of a subsidiary company and managed this business for a couple of years.  I also filled the role of General Manager of the Business-to-Business department before becoming the Vice President for Business-to-Business in Africa. I also acted as a director on a number of groups subsidiaries. Key features of these periods was leading organisational change, business turn-arounds and driving growth.  Post leaving the corporate world I have successfully started a company called Wall Space that sells shopfitting products and a residential garage organization system and have also served as a consultant for a PWC / Sillak consulting consortium. I have a strong interest and skill set in information technology and starting and running businesses.  The internal workings of corporate’s and what drives performance in those organizations is of particular interest. Always looking for better ways to do things is part of my make-up.

My academic focus was in the fields of banking and economics and I hold a Masters Degree in Commerce.

I enjoy the outdoors with mountain biking and deep-sea fishing playing an important role. I have successfully completed two Cape Epic mountain bike cycle races (900km over eight days) with my wife as cycling partner and have won the Tuna Derby that is fished out of Houtbay in South Africa annually.  I enjoy photography and most of the pictures you see on this website will be pictures that either Paddy or myself have taken. I have informal style and am a strong believer in being yourself and having fun.

ydanglis an exiting new venture and I look forward to hearing your thoughts and learning from you.
